Groomsman Speech

in Speech

When preparing a groomsman speech, you should know that is different from the bridesmaid's speech or the maid of honor speech. While the maid speeches generally revolve around the bride, the groomsman speeches are centered on the groom.

Groomsman Speech: The Differences in Content

  • A groomsman speech should have information about the groom, regarding who he was before he met the bride.  It should give the audience a chance to see how he was as a friend to his groomsmen.  It should also have a message to the bride.
  • In this aspect, it is the same as the maid of honor speech.  The main difference lies in how the speech is delivered.  The groomsman speech is much funnier than the maid of honor speech.  The latter is more emotional in delivery.  The former can be laid with comedy as men do not usually express their emotions as eloquently as women do.
  • If you want to have an effective speech during the wedding, it is important that you know the groom personally.  This type of speech usually has personal information about the groom.  You can talk about your experiences with the groom during your younger years.
  • Aside from this, you can also share your thoughts about the occasion. You can talk about your feelings toward the bride, and how lucky she is in having your friend as her husband.  It will be much appreciated if you say these words with feeling and seriousness.
  • As an ending, you can give your messages to the bride and groom and congratulate them for this union.  Then you can make the toast afterwards.  In this part, you can use a famous quote or a line from a movie.  This will give a more poignant feel to your speech.

Groomsman Speech: Additional Reminders

  • When saying a groomsmen speech, I think it's important to remember that not all the audience members will appreciate your jokes about the groom.  This is why it is important that you keep your language clean and respectful.  This way, you will not end up embarrassing yourself and the groom as well.
  • Keeping it short is the key to having a successful speech.  If you give a chance to others, you will be much more appreciated by the people in the reception area.
  • In addition to this, it is also important to remember the other members of the family inside the reception area.  Do not forget to thank them for inviting you and letting you into their son's life.

This type of speech will give you a chance to express how you feel about the occasion, and especially the groom. If you fail to give your best, you will end up disappointing the people, along with the bride and groom.  Show them how much you love them by delivering the speech as perfectly as you can.
